Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi Jayanti(day), Children’s Day, Teachers’ day are some of the special days that one can relate to in our country.
And if one expands the horizon a bit and looks at the commonly known days celebrated across the world, Christmas Day/Eve and New year’s day, among others, are at the top of one’s mind.
In the later years many more such days saw the light of the day like- Friendship’s day, Mother’s day, Father’s day, Girl child day, Tsunami Day, Doctors’ day, which in the given scenario makes so much more sense, to celebrate them.
Earlier, one remembered the dates of most of these Special days, mainly due to the heavy loaded Marketing strategies applied and executed by Archies or some lesser known greeting card companies or the friendship band makers or floral companies.
Flowers, rings, bands and cards of all possible and imaginable hues and sizes with vibrant and catchy words were pushed into the market with every small nukkad (corner) shops to big stores displaying them with pride, day-ring anyone who missed them!!!
We fell (and are still falling) prey to these strategies and soon had a collection of these articles befitting a museum.
I pray that no more days are added, my museum is already and day-finitely filled to the brim.
The days are unfortunately, infinite!!!
Now a days, thanks to E-very-thing, like E-cards, E- vouchers, E-mails and E-fe-males physical articles and artefacts have E-asily lost their sh-EE-n… !!!
The most awaited of all the days is undoubtedly the Valentine’s day.
Nobody cares or bothers even for a second, to know who or what Valentine was.
It is a day celebrated by lovey-dovey couples who want to display their love and splash their money in the form of chocolates, cakes, candles, dinners, poems, flowers, holidays to exotic locales and the like.
There is even a competition in schools and colleges, as to which girl or boy gets the maximum number of flowers or gifts on that day. She/he is then declared the undisputed Valentine Queen or King. They even get a Tiara or a crown for winning.
The local florists, on or off-line, and all the confectionary companies have a field day in the name of love!!!
V-day calls for utmost day-dication across all levels!!!
It’s not the end. There are some more I want to list here which will blow away your day-finition of logic and sense!!!
Have you heard of World mosquito day, National Underwear day( damn it!!! not sure how it is celebrated though, try google guys!!!) and Single’s day???

I have decided to create a few days of my own.
As you can imagine, I don’t need much Day-liberation.
I am a (de)liberated soul.
Here goes my list- world going to office day, world don’t want to get stuck in traffic day, world don’t spit on the road day, world shopping for free day, world auto driver agreed to give me a ride day(Hooray day!!!), world pav bhaji day, world pub day, world don’t message me day, world vegetables only day, world chilli and spicy day, world Lit day, World no mask for a day day, Come on let’s just breathe day…
I can go on and on…rattling.
There could also soon be a World comes to an end day!!! Again, I am here unsure as to how and by whom this would be celebrated!!! Cause on this day, the world and the people in it would be naturally, Day-d…
I know, that’s a very day-n-gerous and scary thought!!!
On a positive note, come day or night, special or otherwise, living each moment to the fullest, is the key.
“Live each day as if it were your last” is a well known quote.
If we can be kind to others, be happy, help each other, eat, sleep, travel, make friends and laugh to the fullest, every day will turn into a magical, special day which can be celebrated in your own way.
You can probably then call it a Day…Your Day!!!
